Scholarships & Prizes

PRIZES AND GENERAL SCHOLARSHIPS

Prizes and other scholarships are awarded by the College at the annual Convocation for Degrees in May, on the recommendation of the Faculty of Divinity’s Committee of the Teaching Staff. The awards recognize highest academic achievement in a course, discipline or academic year. To be eligible for a discipline prize, the student will have taken more than the required number of courses in a department. For year prizes, students may not have any courses standing deferred, and will have participated in the life of the community.

Inter-Departmental Prizes and Scholarships

  • Dean Feilding Scholarship for highest standing: Program Year 1
  • Archbishop Kingston Memorial Scholarship for highest standing: Program Year 2
  • The Fourth Bishop of Toronto’s Prize for General Proficiency: Program Year 2
  • The Gordon Kent Stephen Memorial Prize for highest standing: Program Year 3
  • Governor General’s Silver Medal for highest standing overall: Program Year 3
  • The Hamilton Memorial Prize for best honours thesis: Program Year 3
  • The Kent Testimonial Prize for best Master Of Theological Studies thesis: Program Year 2
  • The Divinity Associates’ Prize* for College involvement: Program Year 3

* Divinity Associates’ Prize: This prize, first awarded in 1998, is given to the graduating basic degree student who has best demonstrated an involvement in the community life of ߲Ƶ. The recipient is chosen by the Divinity Associates Executive in consultation with the Dean and Co-Heads of Divinity. The Co-Heads of Divinity are not eligible for the award.

  • Canon P.M. Lamb Prize in New Testament Greek: Program Year 2
  • The College Prize in Hebrew: Program Year 1-3
  • The Rupert Fenwick Williams Prize in New Testament: Program Year 1
  • The McDonald Prize for General Knowledge of the English Bible: Program Year 2
  • The McDonald Prize for General Knowledge of the English Bible: Program Year 3

History Department

  • The Margaret L. Muckle Prize in Church History: Program Year 1-3
  • The Spencer Prize in Mission Study: Program Year 1-3

Pastoral Department

  • The Doolittle Prize in Reading for most improved preaching skills: Program Year 1
  • The Alexander Burnside Chafee Prize for best preaching skills: Program Year 2
  • The Canadian Bible Society Prize for Excellence in Scripture Reading: Program Year 3
  • The J. Nicholson Prize in Liturgics: Program Year 3
  • The Dorothy Shuter Prize in Liturgics: Program Year 3
  • The Margaret L. Muckle Prize in Christian Education: Program Year 1-3

Theology Department

  • The Sidney Childs Prize in Dogmatics (systematic theology): Program Year 1
  • The Canon Charles Frederick Pashler Prize in Moral Theology: Program Year 1-3
  • The Margaret L. Muckle Prize in Philosophy of Religion: Program Year 1-3
  • The Gartshore Integrity Award*: Basic Degree / Advanced Degree

*Gartshore Integrity Award: This award, the gift of Mr. John Gartshore, will be made on the basis of financial need and academic ability, with preference given to students whose work focuses on questions of sexual orientation in theology and in the practice and teaching of the contemporary church. First consideration will be given to Trinity students, but other TST students are also eligible.
